Self Reflection: Your Gift For The Holidays
The holiday season always captivates me with its unique magic, and it goes beyond the festive lights and parties. It's about the profound change we feel inside as the season progresses. At every holiday gathering, I often face the question: 'Are your dance classes only for professionals? I can't dance.' Each time, I'm filled with a deep sense of empathy, reminding me of my purpose with ASTC: to reignite people's inherent confidence and help them reconnect with their own rhythm. There is something about “I can’t” that really hits me inside.
Holidays can be complex, a time when many of us put on a brave front, insisting 'Everything's fine,' even when it's not. We ponder over life, debating whether to be with family or enjoy solitude. Before we know it, Christmas is upon us, and we push our deeper thoughts aside for the New Year. But with the New Year come new pressures and resolutions, and it's understandable to guard ourselves against these stresses. And that’s when our “I can’t” becomes stronger.
I want you to know this:
Spending time with yourself is not only okay; it's necessary for your well-being. Your emotions and the need for personal space are as crucial. This is because solitude helps you reconnect with yourself, providing clarity on your life's direction.
The holidays are an ideal time for reflection. Yet, many of us find it challenging to look inward. Reflection is a journey into ourselves, allowing us to be present and truly express who we are and aspire to be. This process involves confronting things we might not always like. It's tough, but there's immense power in acknowledging your dislikes about yourself or a situation. It leads to self-compassion and kindness, which we can then extend to others.
Reflecting doesn't mean isolating yourself during the holidays. It's about listening to that inner voice that says, 'I need a moment for myself.' This holiday season, let's commit to listening to that voice, embracing the growth and self-awareness that comes with solitude.
I encourage you to set aside an hour for yourself this holiday season.
Consider it your “solo dance” time. Whether it’s in your living room, bedroom, or a spot in the park, any space is fitting. Below are some items we at ASTC cherish during our “solo dance” moments.
