HI, I'M AMANDA

Amanda Spilinga is a visionary artist known for her innovative approach to dance, choreography, acting, writing, and education. Her career reflects a deep commitment to creativity, authenticity, and advocacy for the arts.

Born and raised in Northern Italy, Amanda discovered her love for dance at the age of 11, training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Contemporary styles. By 17, she earned her professional modern dance instructor designation from the International Dance Association (IDA), becoming one of Italy’s youngest sought-after choreographers and instructors. A pivotal moment in her journey came when she met her American mentor, Steve LaChance, whose guidance inspired her to pursue her artistic vision with passion and resilience.

In 2010, she joined the New Style Hustle Movement, a street dance partnering style founded in NYC in 2008. Amanda became the first and only New Style Hustle female dancer to bring the style mainstream, performing on The Late Night Show with David Letterman and for music artist Tove Lo. The movement’s cultural impact was later highlighted in Netflix’s The Get Down, directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Amanda’s passion for innovation led to the creation of Alternative Synergy The Company (ASTC) in 2017, blending Street Dance and Contemporary forms to craft compelling narrative performances. ASTC’s inaugural production, “The Debut,” was brought to life through a successful crowdfunding campaign, raising $10,000 and exceeding its original goal of $8,000 in less than 20 days. The overwhelming support for this project demonstrated the power of community and belief in Amanda’s vision. Since then, ASTC has continued to thrive as a hub for artistic exploration and expression, pushing the boundaries of dance and storytelling.

In addition to her work as a performer and choreographer, Amanda is a dedicated writer who explores themes of creativity, empowerment, and the transformative power of movement. Her writing complements her artistic pursuits, enabling her to connect deeply with audiences and inspire fellow artists.  As a  Brooklyn Arts Council Grant Winner, she remains committed to fostering a culture of artistic freedom and empowerment.

A passionate advocate for the dance community, Amanda has collaborated with organizations like Freelancers Union NYC to champion fair compensation and recognition for movement artists..

Amanda Spilinga’s journey embodies the transformative power of dance and storytelling. Through her work with ASTC, her performances, and her writing, she continues to push boundaries and inspire the next generation of artists.
